Ekaterina Sjostrand

Ms Sjostrand is an English barrister who is also qualified in Russia. She is the only qualified Russian lawyer practising at the Bar of England and Wales. A graduate (1995) of the Moscow Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), she was called to the English Bar in 2003.

Reflective of her background, her particular expertise lies in complex international cases and projects with a Russian/CIS connection, both dispute resolution (litigation and international arbitration) and non-contentious/ transactional work.

Her practice covers a broad range of commercial and corporate matters such as international contracts, joint ventures, shareholders’ disputes and other company law matters, insolvency, trusts, conflict of laws (including jurisdictional challenges) etc. She advises and represents clients in English courts and international arbitrations under the Rules of various arbitral institutions and also acts as an expert witness on matters of English laws in foreign courts.

Ms Sjostrand is listed as an arbitrator of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Ukraine in Kiev and accepts appointments. She has published extensively in English and in Russian on topical issues of English law and procedure as well as comparative law (English/ Russian).
